I enjoyed this book immensely. Don't read the "Twilight Saga" if you want something creative, edgy and addictive about vampire Romance read "Sunshine" by Robin McKinley. Dark, intense and Romantic this tale will have you wanting more.

Hard to follow sometimes, but a decent read.

A very good book - what I expect from Robin McKinley. Vampires are dangerous but can they be "good"? Slow to begin with but hard to put down once started. Wish there was/ is/ will be a sequel.

A good portrayal of the uneasy friendship that springs up between a girl and her vampire ally. I like how it's always clear that he's dangerous, alien, and definitely not human. The story moves slow and there's too much talk of cinnamon buns but otherwise way better than the average vampire dreck.

Yes, another vampire story but more cerebral than most. If you're used to action packed thrillers, it may take a bit to settle into this one. It has more to do with internal struggle than external, though there is still plenty of gory shoot-em-up scenes. The protagonist has to come to terms with who she is & what that means to those around her, as well as herself. Too bad there's no sequel, I would definitely would read it.

This isn't a romance per say, but more about a relationship. It is about the relationship between the narrator and herself, and the narrator and her perceived enemy. Be that as it may, this is a phenomenal book. Not many authors have the talent to show instead of tell in their writing as well as McKinley can. I was a little confused at first because the first chapter truly jumps into her life without pausing to explain, "This is my mom. My mom's name is this. She looks like that." She throws you into the story and it is as if you are actually getting to know the narrator as a person. At first there are things that don't completely make sense but as you hang around them more they drop tidbits about their past and their beliefs and thus you start to know them. You are dropped into a part of her story and live with her through it until the main conflict is resolved. Then the story ends without an ending because it is better to know that Sunshine lives on rather than to know exactly how they went on from there. Another aspect of the novel that I didn't think possible to be done so well was the fantasy element. It was never explained or told that this is the Planet Gilbatron and our leader is Martian Man or something silly like that. Instead, she mentions pieces of their everyday lives which include magic and demons and vampires yet they still have everyday lives. If you are in the mood for a novel a little bit different, a little bit darker, a little bit better than all the other books you've been reading I'd recommend this. Even if you're not in the mood, though, you'll like it.

This is one of my all-time favorite books. I love the rich fantasy world in which Sunshine lives and I can almost smell her cinnamon rolls baking whenever I read the book. But the attraction between Sunshine and Constatine is what keeps me coming back. The lone honorable vampire among the most evil of the Others is captivating. I always finish the book wanting to know more about Con's history and wondering if the romance between he and Sunshine will survive. I hope a sequel (or even a prequel) is written one day.

Very interesting, not a sugar sweet fantasy novel for sure. A good take on vampires, unique. A story of a young girl who finds herself face to face with vampires, being kidnapped by them, and meeting one who will change her view of the race. Does leave something to be wanted, perhaps a sequel?

He would be here soon enough. He would be here. This time what was doomed to happen wasn't going to be put off. It would begin tonight. And, probably, end there too.
