Add a CommentOne of the best books I have read in many years. This is one of those books that leaves you thinking about the characters and the plot days after you have finished the book. I cannot wait to read other novels by this author.
A father takes his young son into the cemetery of lost books. He is told that he may choose one book, but that he must protect it with his life. Little does young Daniel know that the book will indeed thrust him into danger and intrigue. Upon investigation, Daniel learns that most of the author's works have been destroyed, and an enigmatic figure shows up looking for his book. Daniel learns the heart-breaking story of the author's life. A stunning read. I highly recommend it.
This book was recommended to me be a fellow volunteer at a Casino. I was dubious at the time but I absolutely loved it! The author captures some really incredible ideas about books and that they have a life of their own only they are shared with others. The story moves along well with a little history, a little romance, a little disturbed psychology and altogether a great book!
Part gothic ghost story, part mystery this haunting story kept me reading until the wee hours. Ten-year-old Daniel is taken by his father to a secret enclave in Barcelona, the Cemetery of Forgotten Books. Once there he is told to choose a book that he is willing to protect at all costs for the rest of his life. He picks a rare volume called The shadow of the wind. At first enchanted by the story, Daniel soon wants to read the rest of the author''s works. But he cannot find any more nor can he find anything else about the author''s life. Several years go by and Daniel is no closer to the answers he searches for. That soon changes. Several unsavory characters approach him and events in his life force him to make choices that may endanger not only the book, but Daniel''s life as well. Etched with humor, this page-turner is so beautifully written it will take your breath away in the shadow of the wind.
