read this first

Cussler writes in the intro that he published this manuscript after he had a few books under his belt. I can see why he wasn't too keen on releasing this one, it's not very good

This is the second Dirk Pitt adventure (after The Mediterranean Caper). WARNING......!!!!! (SPOILER ALERT - don't read unless you can't wait!) What is exciting is that 20 -something years later after the events in this novel, Dirk finds he has a son & daughter from his relationship with Summer - whom he thought had died. Kind of schmaltzy, but nice.

The plot isn't as complex as the later Dirk Pitt adventures, but it's a great bit of fun (and it felt like a much quicker read).

Ok, not the best author, but he is just starting out. Guys may enjoy this author's sense of humor more than I. I found the book to lack plot for the first 2/3rd's then suddenly pick up in the last few chapters. An OK sea story if you are looking.
