A friend recommended this to me by saying, "It is NOTHING like the Twilight series!" I haven't read those but have heard they're pretty lacklustre. This, despite its huge size, is a quick and engaging read. Very well thought-out and conceptualized, very enjoyable.

It was a good book, kinda the same "love theme" going on similar to the "Twilight Series" but not so dramatic and more subtle. I will watch the movie but I hope they add some more action! Overall a good read.

I just started it a few days ago and I'm almost half way through. Absolutely riveting. I LOVED the Twilight series but this is NOTHING like those. ...Finished...it was fabulous!

Writting a novel this well from two diffrent perspectives within the same mind and body, is worthy of praise. The story line is eventful, it never misses a beat all the while keeping you in suspence. To say the least, I bought the book!

This is a must read (Even if you totally hate the Twilight Saga, because this is nothing like it)! The characters just seem to grow and grow and grow. Survival, Freindship, Loyalty and the confusion of Love entice you to never put this one down. Bravo Stephanie Meyer!

Stephanie Meyer definitely needs to make a movie out of this. She would make so much money off it.

This book is amazing. It is hard to believe that this is from the same writer that produced twilight. The two main characters in the Host are strong, willful and passionate. This book is also more science fiction than mythology. There is a more realistic nature and comparison but the author still does a wonderful job portraying the feelings and the thoughts behind the actions. So much of this book is the internalization of the two main characters, which is one of the better parts of Stephenie Meyer's writing. This is really a great read.

I wish Meyer would write more books like this one. It's chilling, mysterious and romatic with a bit of realism.

Melanie "Mel" Stryder is one of few "wild" humans remaining on earth after invasion. After "insertion" into a human body, alien souls erase the human occupant and establish a claim over the body and mind. Wanderer is a soul who has lived on eight different planets previously, with Mel being her ninth host body. Upon waking inside her new body, Wanderer is shocked by the power and vividness of human emotions, memories, and senses, and quickly learns that Melanie is not willing to give up the entirety of her mind.

A member of a species that takes over the minds of human bodies, Wanderer is unable to disregard his host's love for a man in hiding, a situation that forces both possessor and host to become unwilling allies.

Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact and continue their lives apparently unchanged. Most of humanity has succumbed. When Melanie, one of the few remaining "wild" humans, is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the glut of senses, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind. Wanderer probes Melanie's thoughts, hoping to discover the whereabouts of the remaining human resistance. Instead, Melanie fills Wanderer's mind with visions of the man Melanie loves, a human who still lives in hiding named Jared. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she has been tasked with exposing. When outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the man they both love.

"The truth came out in a rush, more heated than I'd meant to be. 'You couldn't care about me. If you hold me in your hand, me, you would be disgusted. You would throw me on the ground and grind me under your feet.' "

"he ducked in and touched his lips to my forehead. no one was more surprised than I, though I heard Jared gasp quietly. My mouth hung open as Ian wheeled and nearly sprinted from the room. I heard Doc pull a breath in through his teeth, like a backward whistle. "Well," he said. "
