Add a CommentI remember waiting on line with my best friend to see this movie in Times Square many years ago. Since special effects were way better we just knew we would enjoy this film. Unfortunately, about halfway through the movie i looked over at my friend and noticed he was asleep. bummer. I bought this movie FOR $5.00 and decided to watch it on my HOMETHEATER. I love the very begining when the mysterious alien destroys the Klingon cruisers. The sound and visuals of the, i think, plasma balls or energy lights heading towards the cruisers was YES! YES! The sounds of the Klingon cruisers being destroyed by this energy was YES! YES!.Then the movie starts. It was cool to see the original cast on the big screen but, the story was a little corny to me but i watched the whole movie....Once...The movie is ok for Star Trek fans. I did like the visual and audio effects of this film. I give this movie 3 and a half stars. For the original cast and special effects. Make dinner.
The story was good, however I thought this film focused too much on special effects.
I really enjoyed this and the five other Star Trek films that featured the original cast. I thought the story line to be quite intriguing and entertaining. V'Ger's origins made for an interesting plot twist and I liked how Captain Decker ended up where he wanted to be, after all.

From the director of "The Sound of Music" and "West Side Story", it's better than people give credit. And considering that it was made in 1979, it is not all that dated. Yes, it's mostly for fans of Star Trek, but that's nearly everyone...
