Add a CommentI agree with previous reviewers who have noted that the first few chapters are tough to get through. However, once the stage is set, the book really captures your attention. A real page turner for sure. What a roller coaster ride!! Lizbeth Salander and Blomkvist are really well developed, complex, and rich characters. The ending caught me off guard. Well done Stieg Larsson!!! For those of you who find the book tough slugging, I suggest the audio CD.
The first half of the book is tough slugging and then when Larsson is done setting the stage the book becomes a fantastic page turner. Lizbeth Salander is a wonderful character who kept me reading during the set up. The story is extremely graphic and makes Lee Child novels look like childrens books.
This book is a rough start as the first 100 pages or soo seem to drag on and I found it difficult to find the motivation to keep reading. However this book did suddenly get interesting and kept growing in intensity all the way to the climactic end. I enjoyed this book and will now read the rest of the series.
Didn't live up to the hype for me. Loved reading about Lizbeth - she's such a totally unique and fascinating character. But I still think Larsson could easily have shaved off 100+ pages... I won't be checking out the other two books in the series for that reason, but do plan on looking into the movies.
Enjoyed all 3 books by this author.
I really enjoyed this novel by Stieg Larsson. I am surprised he has such respect and knowledge of how women work. I would like to think that he was the one who actually wrote the book and that he did not get any help from his wife. It's amazing to think that a man can have such respect for women. Lisbeth Salander was the main reason why I read the book. I think the pig who took advantage of her, her new gaurdian, he got what he deserved. I wonder if the people who complain about the vivid or explicit descriptions are squeemish. People complain more about sex than violence which confuses me.
Terrific book, 1st in the series. I would read the series again. Have all 3 books at home
I saw the movie before reading the book and still found the book to be a page-turner. A bleak view of modern-day Sweden.
I read this book before I knew there was going to be a movie and it was fantastic. Though the beginning was somewhat hard to get through, Larsson keeps you hooked once he steps the pacing up a knotch. This is a clear example of masterful pacing and gripping character development. Blomkvist and Lisbeth will charm you, repulse you and definitely take you for one hell of a ride. I highly recommend reading this - provided you have a good supply of coffee and tea for the next morning at work. This is a true page turner!
There is way to much to say about this book. I'm going to start by pointing out that I'm 20 and am usually a more avid reader of the "teenager" books like Hunger Games or Dean Kootz books. I looked on here for a review that stated the persons age and book preference because I really didn't know if this book was for me. Especially with the slow start-out of the book. But, I loved it. The first 100 pages or so were a BIT hard to get through. Not that they were especially boring, but that it just felt like it was dragging along to something that would be much bigger. That "something bigger" took off quickly and didn't stop. I could NOT put this book down. I saytand engulfed it for 6 hours straight while at work. I finished it later that night and got to bed around 3:00 AM. This book is just as amazing as you would expect it to be from all the reviews and credit it has been given. Do not overlook it, it will blow you away and leave you wanting more - more of Salander and more of Larsson's amazing writing!
