Comment
Add a CommentI really liked this book. It was paced well, and had just enough tension that kept you reading and wanting more. I was a bit upset about the demise of one of my favourite characters at the ending, but, still can't wait until the next book. :) 5 stars.
Sometimes I really love cliffhangers, and other times I really hate them... I can't wait to read Envy! :\ But in the meantime I'll read some other books on my tbr list. ;)
Between Penelope and Henry's struggling marriage, and Elizabeth being "kidnapped", this book really lives up to its name!
New York coming of age and try to snare a good husband. Way better than other angsty teen romances out there, with believable female characters trying to live within their society's rules, yet straining against them. Elizabeth has escaped to the west, leaving behind a destitute family. Penelope has her eyes set on Henry, but Henry seems to truly be mourning his supposedly dead fiance. But unbeknownsed to Penelope, Henry has fallen in love with Elizabeth's sister, Diana. His melancholy comes not from mourning, but from straining against the social rules that prevent a young man from dating his dead fiance's sister. Add to all of this the historical social climbing of former maid Lena and you have a juicy story filled with gossip, backbiting, family duty, tragedy and romance that will keep you turning pages well into the night.
Exhilarating! wat a GOOD boook! ii really think people should read it, I loved the first book ( The luxe) and this is the 2nd one and omg this book wass amazing! i didnt think it would turn out to be as good as it did, the ending is alittle bit sad for elizzzabith though! but what happens in book 3 (envy) makes it better. I LOVE THIS SERIES!
Not as good as the first one, but definately still one of my favourite teen novels. Love the descriptions of the clothing and etiquette of the era, and although the storyline may seem a bit silly at times, the characters really keep you hooked.
