In Airborn (2004) and Skybreaker (2005), Oppel imagined an alternate history where zeppelins race across the skies. In Starclimber, he takes the reader into space. Matt Cruse is an aspiring pilot in his final year of flight training; Kate de Vries is the well-heeled adventuress who loves him. The two join an expedition into space aboard a new ship and face a challenge more daunting than the unknown cosmos-Kate's engagement to another man. Why It Is for Us: Old-fashioned in the very best way, Oppel's series is pure feel-good fun. It helps to have read the others in the series, but this world is so well realized that readers new to it will catch up soon. Copyright 2009 Reed Business Information.

Gr 6-10-This sequel to Airborn (2004) and Skybreaker (2005, both Eos) continues the fabulous adventures of Matt Cruse and Kate de Vries. In classic steampunk fashion, this book blends the best of Victorian society and science fiction. No longer content to be confined to planet Earth, Kate and Matt leap at the opportunity to travel into space when Kate is invited to be a part of the Canadian astralnaut program for her scientific expertise and Matt must undergo rigorous training before he is accepted as a crew member. Unexpected mechanical difficulties, friction among those onboard, sabotage, and encounters with strange alien life-forms test their courage and ingenuity and love for one another. Starclimber is a thrilling roller-coaster ride of a book, full of humor and derring-do and guaranteed to keep readers up long past midnight.-Jane Henriksen Baird, Anchorage Public Library, AK Copyright 2009 Reed Business Information.

In the third volume of the steampunk series that opened with the Printz honor book Airborn (2004), Matt and Kate join the first journey into space from their alternative-history world: Matt as an astralnaut and Kate as a biologist. As the Canadian spaceship Starclimber hurtles into space and journeys back towards Earth, the oddly assorted voyagers on board become as intriguing as the wondrous new life forms discovered. The winning combination of adventure and fantasy, spiced with bits of humor and romance, makes this a worthy addition to the Airborn series.--Phelan, Carolyn Copyright 2009 Booklist

This book is tremendous it isn't just for teens it is for all ages. This book is filled with comedy romance and you learn something from the science in it.
The book was very good.It was slow in some parts but other than that I loved the love interest and I believe the time period was in the late 20`s .I felt that by not taking about the wedding it left the reader to predict what they thought would happen
By far one of my favorites, at least second favorite book! The beginning was slow but it picked up fast and ended up amazing!
I like this book i did not love but some parts were suppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppper boring i wanted to fall asleep, i would of loved to read matt and kate get married, and he should of made the time peroid more clear because i was very jumbled
Yay Starclimber!!! It's my #1 so far, and I only have 3 other books to read out of the 10.
STARCLIMBER is probably on my top five book list. It is an action, suspence, humour and adventure packed novel. It has very likable characters and has two very good prequeles, AIRBORNE and SKYBREAKER (which are also on my top five list). I would recommend this book to any gender or age.
GO STARCLIMBER!!!!!!!! MY 2ND FAVE BOOK OUT OF THE 10 BOOKS! it was humorous, adventurous, and suspenseful, a killer triple threat! :D
Amazing book! It's suspenseful and exiting!
This is an amazing must-read for sci-fi lovers! My fav so far! If you enjoyed this, also try Airborn and Skybreaker, as they are the books that come before it in the series!

It is areally good book but I am still reading it and it is so funny
Even though this book is really long, it sort of is worth reading to find out what happens to Matt in space and his fiance.
I thought this book was very intresting .Hearing about all the tasks and trials the finalists had to go through to be apart of the first voyage for Canada.
This book was exceptionnaly written. There was avery good storyline. The action was intense and I actually started to sweat! The way the author described the settings and events were incredible. A good thing was that the book was long because you want to read more and more.
I thought this book was magnificent.
I liked this book a lot and found it very interesting. I loved hearing about when Matt was in space. I almost felt like I was there!
