Add a Commentgreat relaxing read. reminded me of my childhood days when authors took trouble to write well. loved it.
Trying to follow the plot line is very much like riding one of those big roller coaster rides with the big dips & turns. It flips between 3 main time zones/generations, only adding to the roller coaster ride. I found the fairytale stories & the artistic description [the artwork/drawings] reminded me of the Brother Grimm stories & the TV series, Once Upon a Time. I started reading the book Saturday morning & finished late Monday evening = 3 days! At parts I found it hard to put it down at all &/or for long [more than 15mins]. I feel I somewhat rushed through this book to find out what the secret was, about the forgotten garden, etc., Though I did try to take pause enjoy 'the moments' & think about what I just read, I look forward to re-reading this book again later on.
Great book.. Took it on my vacation and it was hard to put it down.. Would love to see the movie!!
What a beautifully poignant story written with fluid grace and vivid imagery. Only by scanning the many generations of this family line, could the story take us on such a heart-rending ride of love and deception. Wish I could have read it in one sitting!
Our book club choose this book and I really enjoyed it. Would love to see it turned into a movie.
A wonderful mystery. As in Kate Morton's other mysteries, the reader is fully immersed in a tale that extends over many years, full of interesting characters and representative of the social mores of each time frame. The way Morton handles the descriptions of love, jealousy, abandonment as a result of class distinctions is so well done once again.
A good general read, nothing remarkable but good characters behaving believably. Plus a nod to one of my favourite books ever ('The Secret Garden").
I loved this book even more than the Distant Hours. It flowed beautifully between the characters & different time lines. I wanted it to go on & on.
Child ends up on a ship alone and is rescued by a family in australia. When her parents die, she discovers her history and goes to England to find out what happened to her. Interesting story and a good read
A beautiful novel, full of suspense, and many stories all nested together, all helping uncover the mystery at heart. Loved it.
