I ask you right here please to agree with me that a scar is never ugly. That is what the scar makers want us to think. But you and I, we must make an agreement to defy them. We must see all scars as beauty. Okay? This will be our secret. Because take it from me, a scar does not form on the dying. A scar means, I survived.
How I would love to be a British pound. A pound is free to travel to safety, and we are free to watch it go. This is the human triumph. This is called, globalization. A girl like me gets stopped at immigration, but a pound can leap the turnstiles, and dodge the tackles of those big men with their uniform caps, and jump straight into a waiting airport taxi. Where to, sir? Western Civilization, my good man, and make it snappy.

Add a CommentThis is a book that is with you long after you read the last page. Well written. The subject matter is shocking but this is a book I would urge all adults to read!! (not suitable for kids) The way the story unfolds - the story itself - still lingers in my mind and my heart aches. A definite Must Read!!!
One of my favourite books. Thought provoking an I couldn't put it down..
This is a book that you think about long after you have finished it. Well written!
Not all that it is hyped up to be. I was disappointed.
A potentially interesting premise, well-written, and completely diappointing. The characterization was such that I didn't feel connected to anyone in the story - everyone was so pitifully selfish that no lessons were learned. I suppose the author was trying to say something to this effect, but I just found it a depressing case study on pathetic losers.
For all the hype this book was given I found it to be a complete dud. Was very slow moving and hard to really get into the story.
Highly rated, i was anticipating reading this. I found the story slow to move towards the interesting parts, although the details were interesting. One plot twist left me cold and I put the book down to never finish it. It wasn't like a suddenly couldn't stand the book, I was developing a disinterest in it as the pages turned, and the betrayal of one character was the straw that broke the camel's back. Not my cup of tea.
Although the story idea was good, I didn't enjoy the style of writing. The first couple of chapters and the last few are what the book is about.
This is an enjoyable book in that it is quite different from most others. The characters are well developed and true to their nature. The story line flows easily. The subject matter is difficult and at times unsettling. Not everyone will enjoy this book, and the inside flap tells you virtually nothing! If you are looking for a feel-good, easy read, look elsewhere.
