So very dark... How can people say that humanity is inherently good? The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked.
This book was beautifully written (obviously) and very symbolic and psychological but a different type of read. I did not enjoy this book because I don't really like classical literature but apart from my person opinion an amazing book.
This is the most dirty and unholy book I've ever read. For those who want to dig deeper into human nature, Lord of Flies is a must-read.
A+++ book
Great allegorical novel Great symbolism and description of setting and environment. I would recommend this book for the mature reader
Read this book in class. It was somewhat boring while reading but once we broke it down in class it turned out to be very interesting. I wouldn't have read it outside of class but I'm glad it was read in class.
This is certainly a special book, but I can't say will be my favorite. Being a fan of authors such as Victor Hugo, you would think that Golding's dark theme and savagery would appeal, and it did. But, I did not enjoy the constant description of surrounding that he employed. I much prefered the conversations between the protagonists, Ralph and Jack. At the same time, seeing the boys descend into a whirlwind of savagery was interesting from a psychological point of view. And, the characters were EXTREMELY well developed. The symbolism is also thought provoking. I would recommend Lord of the Flies for the intellectual aspect of it, but personally, I wanted a little less description, and a bit more character.
For sure amongst the most disturbing books I have ever read. What an undeniable classic. I am so glad to have read it at school; you won't believe what can happen if you leave a group of pre-teenaged boys on an island alone to take care of - and save - themselves. They no longer stay as human beings. READ IT.
Underlying theme: how far will humans go in order to survive? An example of how human beings lose their humanity when faced with almost certain death. A very dark novel, beautifully written.
