Comment
Add a CommentI choose this book because the title sounded funny and I had taken my aging Mum to France and was interested in the author's experience. Mediocre and repeatitive writing. I felt the writing focused more on the author's discontentment with her mother. Having done this myself I can relate to those frustrating moments and to describe 1-2 x is fine but not over and over to fill ink on a page.
Jane tells her story in a humerous way. A lot of us can relate to her experiences. When you reach a certain age and are dealing with those who are elderly and/or infirm, it gets to be a struggle to maintain your sense of humour and dignity, when absolutely every small thing that makes it hard for the other, becomes a source of immense frustration for you. God Bless all Caregivers However do they cope?
i snickered a few times but didn't find it hilarious as other readers have. what interested me most was her observations on italy. the only one i concur with is the 'added items on the restaurant bills', i also experienced that. i've have been to italy several times and found the food fantastic. the author claims to be a traveller and to have done research prior to her trip. from her descriptions i felt like she was a 'first-time' traveller.
A must read if you plan on travelling with your elderly mother! My only complaint with the writing is that there was some repetition in the comments / descriptions. (like she forgot she already wrote about it). Some people might think the daughter is selfish and mean, but I get where she is coming from.
while badly written, i laughed and laughed at the experiences. and yes the daughter did make peace with her mother
By the end of this book, I really understood why the author's mother disliked her daughter. I can only concur.
totally negative and a waste of time. the worst book I've ever read.
