Feel good, gay teen book written by two authors about two characters named Will Grayson, in alternating chapters. The differences in the two writers' styles are slightly distracting, and there's an element of over-simplification that can often enter feel good titles, but the book is hilarious, unabashedly moving, and a nice look at the variety of personalities embodying high school life today.

Friendships and relationships can be hard. Will Grayson knows this first hand and he’s about to meet someone else who also understands: the other Will Grayson. When the two teens meet and discover they not only share the same name but similar insecurities and uncertainties, it sparks a catalyst of change that teaches them who is important to them and why. Will Grayson, Will Grayson is a funny and touching book that is simple in plot but rich in character development. Friendship and relationship struggles are tackled with fast-paced dialogue, honesty, and a little help from a larger-than-life and truly delightful supporting character, Tiny Cooper. As Will Grayson and Will Grayson start to figure out who they are, their stories become a celebration of familial, platonic, romantic, gay and straight love.

Excellent book! I picked it up with rather high expectations, based on the authors (and all the hype from the Nerdfighter community), and was, at first, not sure what to think of it. I didn't find either of the Wills to be likeable initially, and wasn't sure I was going to enjoy it. However, as I started to warm up to the characters, who are so real and flawed (often hard to find in YA fiction these days), and got into it, I couldn't put it down! Will Grayson, Will Grayson is absolutely hilarious, and totally worth reading (particularly for the spectacular character Tiny Cooper)!

I really enjoyed this novel. The chapters alternate easily between the two different Will Graysons, the odd chapters being written by John Green (whose writing style I would recognize anywhere) and the even by David Levithan. Henceforward, the two Wills will be referred to as Odd Will and Even Will. Odd Will is the geeky character that Green writes so well with all of the flaws and foibles that we expect. Even Will's chapters are interesting stylistically as the text is entirely lower case and all dialogue is done in script style. Even Will is also a much darker character as he deals with depression and his sexuality as a gay teenager. The novel deftly explores themes of love, truth, depression, and the relationships that get us through life. But the best element of this novel is Tiny Cooper, the 300-pound football player who falls in love with a different boy on a daily basis. Tiny and the musical he writes about his life, Tiny Dancer, are the impetus that keeps the plot moving. But he is also the character that brings much of the humour and frequent dashes of sweetness to this excellent novel. You should read this book if for no other reason than to encounter the epic character that is Tiny Cooper.

I'm starting to become a fan of John Green. This book is hilarious (as always), and i just can't say how many times I've doubled over laughing. I was at my brother's christmas concert and read it in between breaks and had to keep myself from laughing out loud. :) THAT would've been embarassing...both of their characters were so real and lovable (except for maura, whom I hated with great passion...). It was a very enjoyable read!

John Green and David Levithan are great writers and even though their styles are different, they bring a story together that is humorous, heart-wrenching and thought-provoking. Tiny has to be my favourite character from the book, he's just amazing. It's a great tale about love, friendship and life. Definitely loved WG,WG! DFTBA!

Coarse Language: Does contain a few mentions of the f-bomb, but nothing that a teen can't handle (I'd just be wary of using it in book clubs).

p 144 tiny doesn't just sing these words - he belts them. it's like a parade coing out of his mouth. i have no doubt the words travel over lake michigan to most of canada and on to the north pole. the farmers of saskatchewan are crying. santa is turning to mrs. claus and saying 'what the fuck is that?'
