Comment
Add a CommentThis was terrible; I turned it off after the first 15 minutes. If you're at all a Holmes/Watson fan, you'll find this Hollywood production as ridiculous as I did. Don't waste your time.
I thought this dark new twist on an overdone old standard was executed exceptionally well. Excellent cast. Downey Jr. and Law worked well together. Fast paced storyline that holds your attention. Magnificent visuals. Director Guy Ritchie's and screenwriters Kieran and Michele Mulroney's modern interpretation was creative and thoroughly entertaining. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is and always will be the creator of Holmes. That fact, however, in no way detracts from my enjoying this film, for what it's worth, as its own entity. I don't subscribe to purist snobbery. Perhaps Ritchie and the Mulroneys don't either. Life's too short, man. Looking forward to the next. FIVE STARS.
I was expecting a cerebral, interesting film and certainly a new take on Sherlock Holmes... but this is so different that I feel a little swindled. There is no relationship between this movie's version of Sherlock Holmes and the actual character from the Conan Doyle novels. Instead of cerebral, we get a smart-ass, ADD, action character that I personally found more annoying than intriguing. And as far as the cerebral part... not there. At all.
I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!! Robert Downey Jr. did an AMAZING job!! Downey Jr. played Holmes exactly as he is in the books. He reminds me of Jack Sparrow. It was so funny, yet clever and serious. Can't wait to see the next. Would recommend to everyone.
It was O.K for a home TV movie. I was entertained and interesting. But it was NOT worth the long library wait or the price to rent from a Red Box.
crime drama-action, good, moves well and I especially liked te forshadowing (like when Holmes explains the past events to Watson in the old ones, in this one it's at times to himself and then he takes it into action-well done)
Being proved right usually satisfies except when a movie proves more horrid than originally anticipated. Nothing can redeem this insipid film. Except the credits. And a drink….no-even that won’t help it. If you want a new take on Doyle, try the new Sherlock series from BBC which is so superior I almost feel guilty mentioning it alongside Richie’s steam punk Sherlock.
The storyline is secondary to the actors, which is never a good formula. Perhaps part two of this series will be better.
Pitch perfect! a masterpiece! by far one of the best movies of the decade! story:A. authenticity:A. cast:A+!
Pretty good movie, my favorite thing about the movie was Watson's dog...
