A really humourous look at growing up Native on a prairie reserve. The book is not linear and Dawn tends to skip around various parts of her childhood, grouping items topically to build that chapter's narrative - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Missing from the work is a bit more honesty about the highs and lows, a bit more coherence in the later chapters (which are less well written), and more of her lovely dry wit, which she's incredibly good at.
Dawn Dumont will be reading from Nobody Cries at Bingo at the Rideau Library, 377 Rideau St. on Wed, Oct 5th 2011, 7:00-8:00. Not to be missed!
