Hunted: a House of Night Novel
Hunted: a House of Night Novel By Cast, P. C. (Book )

Annotation:The fifth in the series. Always a crowd pleaser. It keeps on coming. Their stories are only over a short period, and so everything in the last book happened yesterday. Great read. Kick ass kids!

Vampire High
Vampire High By Rees, Douglas (Book )

Annotation:A very lightweight vampire book, for reluctant readers, and boys--Not to imply boys are reluctant readers. Cody ends up at Vlad Dracul school because he prefers it to Our Lady of Perpetual Homework (who wouldn't?). But it is filled with vampires. He saves the day in many ways, the vampire princess falls in love with him, and he changes the way vampires are viewed in the world. Farfetched (even for a vampire book), but a fun and light read.

Breaking Dawn
Breaking Dawn By Meyer, Stephenie, 1973- and Meyer, Stephenie (Book )

Annotation:Last of the Twilight series. Thank goddess! It is a combination of: harlequin romance, superhero comicbooks, and soap operas, with angst thrown in. It is still compelling, but not as interesting as other vampire sagas.

Vampire Academy
Vampire Academy By Mead, Richelle (Book )

Annotation:Book 1 of Vampire Academy; I didn't realize it was the beginning of a series although it makes sense. It is not very vampire-like, but there is a little bit of blood sucking in it to satisfy the desire for many to have vampires. However, the good vampires don't like forever (the Moroi); the bad ones do (Strigoi). The Guardians are half Moroi half human and guard the vampires. There is a lot of hierarchical structure but it is full of suspense, with a bit of implied lesbianism mixed in--not overt, but in the feeding that Lissa does with Rose when they escape the academy and the feelings it engenders. If there wasn't so much staying within one's roles, it would be good since it shows a powerful female friendship and, at least in this one, Rose does not end up with the guy.

Eclipse
Eclipse (Book )

Annotation:The third in the Twilight series. One of the teens I talked to said this was her favourite, but it was as unendingly long as the others (and yet oddly compelling). I wonder what Native Americans think about the stories of the werewolves. In this book, Bella and Edward decide to get married and defeat Victoria. What will the last one bring?

Suck It up
Suck It up (Book )

Annotation:This is more of a boy's vampire book, but it is not without strong girls. Morning is the guinea pig who will promote Worldwide Out Day when all the Leaguer vampires will come out. They are committed to finding alternative ways to drinking the blood of humans, but the Loners (who did not sign the treaty) are dangerous. Morning gets caught up in the conflict between the two with a girl he likes to tempt his bloodlust thrown in. Pretty good.

Untamed: A House of Night Novel
Untamed: A House of Night Novel By Cast, Kristen (Book )

Annotation:The fourth in the House of Night series. It keeps getting more and more exciting. Some of it is a bit unbelievable, but we are talking about vampires. Each novel takes place a month apart. They could go on for a long time! It's captivating, and utterly engaging. I can't wait for the fifth.

Cirque du Freak
Cirque du Freak By Shan, Darren (Book )

Annotation:The first in the series. It is not what I expected and I didn't realize it would be a vampire book. But these aren't gorgeous vampires, who all the girls love. These are vampires for boys. I wonder if the Twilight set likes this series?

Betrayed: A House of Night Novel
Betrayed: A House of Night Novel By Cast, P. C., Cast, P.C., Cast, Kristin, and Cast, PC (Book )

Annotation:2 of House of Night novel - Although I accidentally read them out of order, #2 is worth reading. This is the story of how light does not always mean good and dark does not always mean evil. Zoey is growing, flawed, but getting more powerful. But she's still a kid. Well done.

New Moon
New Moon By Meyer, Stephenie (Book )

Annotation:The second in the Twilight series. Bella is annoying and the plot is marginally interesting (but possibly offensive) however, the main thing is the love between Bella and Edward. A Harlequin vampire romance -- just very long. Compelling reading.

Chosen
Chosen By Cast, P. C. and Cast, P.C. (Book )

Annotation:3 of House of Night novel - Things are heating up, and Zoey Redbird has lots of decisions to make. She finds out that there are huge consequences to being in opposition to a powerful High Priestess. Great and interesting, but less impressive than the first.

Twilight
Twilight By Meyer, Stephenie (Book )

Annotation:This is the first of a series and the one that all the girls LOVE. I found it disappointing and a bit like a Harlequin Vampire novel. There's a whole lot (too much) of pining, loving, brooding dark-eyed male stuff for me. Meyer did handle the suspense well (although not long enough) when Bella is taken by the bad vampire. But I will read the next. It's an easy read, although the book is very long.

Marked
Marked By Cast, PC, Cast, Kristin, Cast, P. C., and Cast, P.C. (Book )

Annotation:2008 next top novel finalist... 1 of House of Night Novel - A most surprising and remarkable vampire book. Although I haven't read a lot of vampire books, it includes some surprising elements. These vampires worship the goddess and cast circles. Paraphrase: Just because something's dark, doesn't make it bad; just because something's light doesn't make it just. It's the first in a series and I can't wait to read more.
