Teen Fantasy

Annotation:This is not your typical action-packed end-of-the-world book. It is the powerful story of one family's struggle to survive after the world is forever changed by a freak natural disaster. It is tragic, gripping and heart-breaking, yet there are glimmers of hope throughout the novel that make you think-just somehow- everything will be okay. The sequels are equally gripping.

Annotation:A futuristic society in which children must fight to the death in the annual hunger games. Katniss voluntarily takes her beloved sister's place in the games, and she must use all her wits to survive. Katniss finds some unexpected allies and friendships during the bloodthirsty tournament. A great, suspenseful, thought-provoking read. The sequel (Catching Fire) is equally awesome.

Annotation:If you liked the Hunger Games, you will enjoy this great science fiction novel. Thomas finds himself in the glade one day. He has no memory of his life, other than his name. The glade is full of other teenage boys with the same memory loss. They are surrounded by a complex maze that is full of terrifying creatures. Will they be able to work together to solve the mystery of the maze? Will they live to see another day? This book had me guessing right until the end, then threw another twist that has me waiting for the sequel

Annotation:I thought this was an interesting premise. It's a time-travel novel of sorts, yet it has more of a dramatic and romantic premise than the typical time-travel novel. Amy moves in with her Aunt to escape her abusive boyfriend. She crosses the clearing near her house where she meets Henry, a boy trapped with his family in 1944, trying to avoid an inevitable tragedy. This novel is bittersweet; the protagonist must take an emotional journey to find inner strength, while Henry must accept the tragedies in his life, and perhaps even sacrifice his dreams to save his family. An enjoyable read, though the dialogue and writing style felt stiff and forced at time.

Annotation:Historical fiction infused with spiritualism and science fiction. Five sisters grow up with a medium mother in the town of Spirit Vale, New York. As their lives take on different paths, they find themselves together on the Titanic's fateful voyage. You will meet some interesting historical figures such as Nichola Tesla and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and you will be intrigued by some real-life mysteries such as Robertson's prophetic book about a ship named Titan that sinks on its maiden voyage- published 14 years before the Titanic sinks. Enjoyable.

Annotation:A brave heroine, magical creatures, and an enchanted prince. What's not to love?

Annotation:First in a series. A group of teens find themselves alone in a devestated world. As they try to survive the strange creatures left on earth, they soon realize that they have been kept alive for a much darker purpose. Very good.

Annotation:Mary lives in a post-apocalyptic society. This society is closed off from the world because of the 'unconsecrated' As Mary is trying to find out where she belongs in the community, the community's very existence is threatened when the fence is breached.

Annotation:A young girl falls in love with the god of winds. But when her father makes a promise to the gods, they must try to keep her from death.

Annotation:Princesses and sisters, Addie and Meryl are as opposite as can be. Fearless Meryl dreams of danger and adventure, while timid Addie doesn't want to venture far from home. But when Meryl lies ill with the grey plague, Addie braves all to save her sister. Excellent.

Annotation:Jessica moves to a new town where time stops at midnight for everyone except a small group of teens...and dark and dangerous creatures.

Annotation:First in a series. Tally can't wait to turn sixteen so that she will have the operation that will turn her pretty. She is looking forward to her happy, fun-filled life as a pretty. But she and another girl, Shay, learn that there may be a more sinister side to turning pretty.

Annotation:A magical retelling of the story of the twelve princesses. A lovely story.
