YRCA 2011

Annotation:I thoroughly enjoyed this book, although I found Kasta a bit annoying at times about her views on marriage. The author seemed to be making too much of a statement through the story. Also, some scenes were a bit risque for a teen novel, in my humble (and slightly old-fashioned) opinion. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the characters and the story, and I hope Kristin Cashore will be writing more in the future. 3.5/5

Annotation:This is a charming book, written entirely in rhyme. It is a well-paced book; the rhyme seems to make it move quickly. The story is cute and funny. An enjoyable and quick read. Very clever. 4/5

Annotation:Another great girly novel by the author of the Princess Diaries series. Smart but unstylish Emerson is the victim of a freak accident, and when she awakens she discovers her brain has been transplanted into the body of a supermodel. Now she must figure out how to get the boy of her dreams when he thinks she's dead, while dealing with the crazy drama of her new life. 4/5

Annotation:A great novel- the first chapter will have you hooked, though the action doesn't pick up again until the last few chapters. A novel concept that combines fantasy and history. A very enjoyable read. 4/5

Annotation:An action packed adventure full of twists and turns. When siblings Amy and Dan attend the funeral of their grandmother, they discover that they belong to a very powerful family, and they soon embark on a dangerous and exciting adventure to find 39 clues that will give them immense power. But many of their relatives will stop at nothing to get there first. 4/5

Annotation:This delightful story weaves together mystery, romance, the supernatural, despair, and hope in a wonderfully refreshing re-telling of Rumplestilzkin. 5/5

Annotation:A thrilling story, reminiscent of The Count of Monte Cristo, with a technological twist. 4/5

Annotation:I thought this book was excellent. I couldn't put it down until I finished it. I thought it was brutal and touching and even hopeful despite the truly bleak situations the heroine found herself in. I like that she tried to show a balanced view of the war, showing the flaws of both the British and the Americans. An excellent novel. 4.5/5

Annotation:I grew up reading Gordon Korman, and I've enjoyed reading some of his contemporary books as well. As always, he does not disappoint. This is a great book. I really enjoyed it. Korman gives dimension and depth to three boys who wind up in Juvie. I really enjoyed it.

Annotation:Immensely enjoyable. An original concept, and Gaiman runs with it. A young boy grows up in a cemetery, protected from evil forces that want to destroy him on the outside. His unlikely guardians are the spirits of the graveyard, and the hero must find his place in the world.

Annotation:This novel takes place in a futuristic society in which children must fight to the death in the annual hunger games. Katniss voluntarily takes her beloved sister's place in the games, and she must use all her wits to survive. Katniss finds some unexpected allies and friendships during the bloodthirsty tournament. A great, suspenseful, thought-provoking read. My favourite so far of the YRCA 2011 senior division.
