EPL Picks - Best of 2011 - Teen Fiction

Annotation:It's been 3 years since the devastating accident that nearly took Mia's life. Reunited with her friend Adam and told from his perspective in the same lyrical prose that defined "If I Stay", "Where She Went" explores grief, hope and rekindled romance.

Annotation:This futuristic dystopia is set in America's Gulf Coast and follows a boy named Nailer who must scavenge copper wiring from grounded oil tankers to make a living. When an accident leads Nailer to a rich girl named Nita, he must decide if he should save her, at great risk to himself.

Annotation:The 50 contestants from the Miss Teen Dream Pageant were looking forward to a fun trip to the beach, but when their plane crashes on a desert island they are forced to think otherwise in this darkly comical novel.

Annotation:Told in dual voices, this heartbreaking story follows two teenage runaways in the hard streets of Toronto and their troubled path to redemption.

Annotation:A science fiction crime thriller about a 16 year old boy who survives a blow to head from a free falling smartphone. After recovering from surgery, he discovers that enough of the phone is still embedded in his brain that he has gained some electronic powers. Stunning but violent, this novel is recommended for older teens.

Annotation:One day Sam the slacker discovers he has the ability to raise the dead, and now he has to deal with a werewolf faerie hybrid, harbingers and necromancers in this funny and action packed story.

Annotation:Band geek and book worm Lennie Walker has happily spent the last 17 years in the shadow of her older sister Bailey. But when Bailey suddenly dies, Lennie finds herself on centre stage and torn between the love interests of two boys. If you are a fan of Sarah Dessen, you'll love Jandy Nelson's debut novel.

Annotation:Set in dystopian Chicago, 16 year old Beatrice must choose between her family and her true personality in joining a faction. Jam packed with action, romance and betrayal, it's like the Hunger Games, but even better!

Annotation:This beautifully illustrated and haunting novel deals with the loss and grief of a teenage boy named Conor. Ness completed an idea originally spun from author Siobhan Dowd, whose own premature death from cancer prevented her from finishing the work.

Annotation:God is a whiny, horny, incompetent teenage boy living in present day with his grumpy personal assistant Mr B and a nearly extinct pet named Eck, and his hilarious antics make for an enjoyable read from the delightfully unpredictable Meg Rosoff.

Description
Some great teen novels from 2010 and 2011, according to the humble opinion of the Teen Services Librarian. There is a little action, adventure, comedy, fantasy and my favourite, heartbreaking stories. My general rule of thumb is that if a book makes me cry, I like to share it with other people!
