Young teen

Annotation:This is how I got the kids hooked on Dick Francis. This has one of the most accessible action-packed plots of his novels.

Annotation:Book one of a quirky, funny series. Space-ships with sails!

Annotation:A standalone book by the author of the Dark is Rising series.

Annotation:Science fiction. One of the older books by this author. I read this in a first edition, back in the seventies or early eighties

Annotation:Humorous series in the vein of the Unfortunate Events series... I think. For the slightly younger readers. Look for other series/books by this author

Annotation:Book 1 of the most adult of Sherwood Smith's writing - definitely her strongest work. Skirts along mature themes, but nothing graphic.

Annotation:Book 1 of series. I read this also - fairly fun.

Annotation:Book 1 in a series. The concept is good, but it does not carry out as well as I'd hoped. Even my kids tired of it before the end of book two.

Description
ongoing reading stream for young voracious readers. No Magic Treehouse for these tweens - it needs heft. Many of these are series, or by prolific authors - to save space, I'll list just the first. I am using the term 'teen' loosely here - in order to provide ENOUGH books, I am pretty sure we are skirting often into less-age-suitable content. My nine-year-old 'skips the moaning stuff' he says, while the eleven-year-old is likely to complain that it's gross.
