New to Canada? Things you need to know

Whether you're new to Canada or you've been here a while, you probably have lots of questions about settling into your new home. We've got answers! The Edmonton Public Library in partnership with the Edmonton Immigrant Services Association's settlement services offer a series of free presentations on important topics. Guest speakers will discuss a different topic each session and we'll guide you through the many library resources available. Sessions are open to everyone.

November 15: Family Sponsorship

The free presentation will include the following:

  • What family members can be sponsored
  • Who can and cannot become a sponsor
  • Focus on sponsoring spouses, children, and parents
  • How to prove the genuineness of marriage
  • How to apply and what documents are required
  • How to request exemptions on humanitarian and compassionate grounds
