Join BearPaw Media and Education to learn step-by-step information on how to get government issued identification (Birth certificates, Alberta I.D. card and Driver’s License). This workshop covers some of the historical context for Indigenous people and I.D. as well as Indigenous sovereignty, Treaty Rights and Status. We will also provide information on the Alberta Government’s commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action #17 that recommends there is no application cost to (re)claim your traditional Indigenous name on your birth certificate, driver’s licence and Alberta I.D. We will also review how to change your sex marker on Alberta I.D.
This class is offered in partnership with BearPaw Media and Education (a department of Native Counselling Services of Alberta).
