Filling a Library with Art: The Curator's Tale

7:00 PM – 8:30 PM

Description

Works by the great masters abandoned in dusty attics, a priceless painting that shreds itself on the auction block – the world of art is full of mystery and intrigue. The artists are the often protagonists of these adventures - but it is the curator who furthers the plot!

The revitalized Stanley A. Milner Library opened its doors in September 2020 showcasing an array of art in a magnificent space. Curators MJ Belcourt, Michelle Schultz and David Turnbull, curated the Milner collection, bringing together amazing works for Edmontonians to discover from award winning Indigenous artists, to refreshed older pieces and stunning works of public art.

These curators, along with Richard Thornley, Manager of the Milner Library will recount the adventure of discovery and assembly that brought this unique collection together in a fabulous public space.

The Edmonton Public Library’s Capital City Art initiative promotes and celebrates visual art and artists in Edmonton through a variety of means, including classes and events where art issues are discussed, and inspiration is explored.
