Hand Sewing for Beginners

7:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Description

Have you ever wanted to hem your own pants, replace a button, or repair your child’s stuffed animal, but didn’t know where to start? Look no further! In this class, Sarah will teach you about different types of needles and thread, basic stitches and where to apply them, and how to start and finish your seam. You’ll learn tips and tricks for beautiful sewing that lasts. Specifically designed for sewing newbies, this class will help you gain confidence in your ability to repair and reuse!

Students who want to follow along should have the following supplies: a needle, thread, scissors, and a piece of fabric (non-stretch fabric is recommended, but any fabric will do). Further information provided upon registration.

Sarah learned the basics of sewing as a child but didn't really pick up the hobby seriously until her mid-20s, when she decided that hemming her own jeans could save a lot of hassle and expense. From there, she began to experiment more with repairs and alterations before starting to sew pieces from scratch. She's now on a (very slow) journey toward building a handmade wardrobe.
