On Aug 30, we will host musician Mark Davis and poets Zach Polis and Rayanne Haines from our Capital City Press Anthology.
Mark Davis has been called “one of the most underrated songwriters in the world” (Michael Barclay, Radio Free Canuckistan). His eighth album, Eliminate the Toxins, was nominated for the 2012 Polaris Prize. Herohill called it “the one record every Canadian music fan should hear.”
Mark has toured throughout North America and has shared billings or stages with Guy Clark, Alejandro Escovedo, K'naan, Wilson Pickett, Fred Eaglesmith, Kathleen Edwards, The Great Lake Swimmers, Gurf Morlix, Ray Condo, The Sadies, Richard Buckner, and Pieta Brown, to name a few.
Zach Polis is a writer, performer, and former poet laureate. He was St. Albert’s first poet laureate, acting as a literary and cultural ambassador to the Edmonton Metropolitan Region. He has performed his work on CBC Radio, as well as at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity.
Rayanne Haines is the 2022 Regional Writer in Residence for the Metro Edmonton Federation of Libraries. She is the author of three poetry collections, The Stories in My Skin, Stained with the Colours of Sunday Morning and Tell the Birds Your Body Is Not A Gun. She is the host of the literary podcast Crow Reads, an Edmonton Artist Trust Fund Recipient, the Vice President for the League of Canadian Poets, and a member of the teaching faculty with MacEwan University.
