Join Zita Cobb, Founder and CEO of Shorefast and Fogo Island Inn, and Mary Rowe, President and CEO of the Canadian Urban Institute, for a provocative conversation about potential futures for Canada’s local economies. They make the case for a new way of thinking about value, development, and investment.


Zita Cobb is the Founder and CEO of Shorefast and Innkeeper of Fogo Island Inn. After a successful high-tech career, she returned to her hometown of Fogo Island, Newfoundland, to help build a sustainable economy alongside the traditional fishery. Through Shorefast, a Canadian charity, she supports the island’s cultural and economic resilience using business-based approaches.


Mary W. Rowe, President and CEO of the Canadian Urban Institute, is a civic leader and urban advocate with 30+ years’ experience. She champions resilient, livable cities, supporting policy transformation and initiatives like Re-Imagining the Civic Commons and 100 Resilient Cities. Mary contributes globally to city-building programs and initiatives.

This event is presented in partnership with Edmonton Chamber of Commerce, Explore Edmonton, the Downtown Business Association, the City of Edmonton and the Edmonton Community Foundation.
