About the Facilitators:
Val Gauthier: Val works with Indigenous seniors who are struggling with family issues and is very knowledgeable about needs and concerns of Indigenous seniors. Many seniors need support for the challenges of housing and financial concerns. Val is informed and supportive, helping seniors to work through family issues, intergenerational trauma and those needing information and encouragement.
Bernice Gladue: Bernice works with clients experiencing issues regarding social justice and domestic violence and is a strong support for families needing help and direction in Family Court.
About Métis Child and Family Services Society
Métis Child & Family Services Society has a 40- year history as an Indigenous-led Family Services Centre. Its mission is to promote the health and well being of Indigenous children and families through the provision of culturally sensitive and appropriate programs and services. The agency provides assistance to the Indigenous community of Edmonton and all others that request services. Programs and Services are accountable and responsive to the community. Over the years, staff have developed experience and skills in specialized areas, supporting individuals and families challenged by many issues: including domestic violence, loss/grief, support for seniors, youth support in schools, Foster care with families, social justice and court support, Prevention of Sexually Exploited Children, working with others to end trafficking in humans, (AVENUE)), intergenerational trauma and historic issues of colonialism.
