Elder-in-Residence -Winter Solstice Pipe Ceremony with Kokum Lorette Goulet

11:30 AM – 4:00 PM
Stanley A. Milner (Downtown)

Description

Join Kokum Lorette for Pipe Ceremony marking the Winter Solstice on Sunday, December 21st.

In this Pipe Ceremony we welcome the change of seasons and reflect on that the winter is a time to gather as everything slows in winter and there is more time for visiting, connecting and sharing stories. We also acknowledge that the days are starting to become longer and to celebrate the coming year.

This is a co-ed Ceremony and will have both men’s and women's pipes. Arrival at 11:30 am and Ceremony begins at noon.

If this is your first time attending a pipe ceremony, please know this is a welcoming and teaching space. There are further guidelines below, but if you have any questions, please email Brittany (eir@epl.ca)

Guidelines

  • During the ceremony, people will be sitting on the floor (if they are able). We will have some cushions available but invite you to bring your own.
  • Offerings to the pipe carrier such as tobacco, medicines, cloth, ribbon, etc. are welcome, but not required, as the library will be making the offering on behalf of attendees.
  • If guests are on their moon time, please contact Brittany Cherweniuk (eir@epl.ca)
  • People who are going to sit on the women’s side are asked to wear a long skirt or bring a blanket.
