Events › xTool Hobbyist Laser Cutter Certification

This certification class provides an introduction to EPL's brand new xTool Hobbyist Laser Cutter, designed for beginners and intermediate users who want to master the art of laser cutting. Participants will learn safety protocols and machine setup and operation, enabling them to confidently use the xTool for a variety of projects, from cutting to engraving. Upon successful completion of the class, participants will receive certification, allowing independent use of the xTool laser cutter in the Makerspace.

• Understand Laser Cutting Technology: Overview of laser cutting principles and how the xTool works.
• Safety Protocols: Learn important safety measures, personal protective equipment (PPE), and emergency procedures while operating the machine.
• Machine Setup and Calibration: Instruction on setting up the xTool laser cutter, including software and hardware configurations.
• Material Selection: Explore different types of materials that can be cut or engraved, and understand which settings are ideal for each.
• Laser Cutting and Engraving Techniques: Hands-on training for adjusting laser speed, power, and precision to achieve desired results.
• Basic Troubleshooting: How to identify and resolve common issues during laser cutting.
• File Preparation: Introduction to design using xTool Creative Space, and steps to prepare vector and raster files for cutting or engraving.
• Hands-On Practice: Laser cutting and engraving practice using pre-designed templates and user-created designs.
• Personalized guidance from the instructor to fine-tune techniques.

Provided you have a library card a certification will be added to your account after the class is completed. This certification makes you eligible to independently use the xTool Laser in the Makerspace.

Some computer experience is necessary for this class. This class is for ages 13 and up.
