The remake with Denzel Washington is better

An "OK" crime drama with the NYC metro as the backdrop. A few well known actors here but overall the film is just idle-time-killing materials.

🎨 The villains use colors for their noms de guerre, only forty years before Tarantino used the same gag in "Reservoir Dogs." Blue (Shaw) and his colorful goons commandeer a New York subway car and hold the passengers hostage, demanding a…

Four olderish guys titled as colors take control of an NYC subway train and demand...1 MILLION $! Since 'Die Hard' has not happened the powers that be aspire to pony up the funds.

Superb action/suspense film, with Walter Matthau brilliantly cast. Well done!

I saw this movie when it came out in 1974 and also read the book the movie was based on. Walter Mathau and Robert Shaw were very popular then. 43 Years and countless other films with over-top swearing and I am not favorably impressed…

A smart, tightly edited thriller with an all-star cast that manages to keep the action moving right up until the unexpectedly comical ending. Flipping back and forth between claustrophobic interiors and widescreen cityscapes, director…

Easily just as enjoyable, if not more, than the Washington/Travolta remake

A group of heavily armed men take a subway car full of passengers hostage threatening to kill one person every minute unless their demands are met. A smart, tightly edited thriller with an all-star cast that manages to keep the action…

This may be the best overlooked Walter Matthau movie. "The Taking of Pelham, One, Two Three" is a solid action film. Walter Matthau plays police Lt. Zackary Garber who must deal with hijackers of a New York City Subway train. The…

The original, not the Denzel Washington/John Travolta remake.

This was a great movie. When it first came out, I was 10, lived in NYC and our home subway stop was on an elevated platform so I was scared to death that this would really happen. I refuse to see the remake as I like Denzel too much and…

If you can allow for the fact that a movie this old is bound to be dated in many ways, it's one of the best of it's time. Matthau and Shaw at the absolute top of their game. Cool NY City locations and interesting look into the subway…

Walter Matthau and Robert Shaw shine in this sleek 1970s thriller. Somehow, the movie manages to be original while not going so far out on a limb that it's obviously grasping for that "unique" label. The film is very well-structured. It…

Superb and tense. The villans always seem to be in control (unlike the remake) and Shaw's calm demeanor makes him more disturbing. Mathau is superb and offers some comic relief to the unrelenting tension.
