When the USSR broke apart in 1991, a generation of young people faced a new realm of possibilities. An intimate epic about the extraordinary lives of this last Soviet generation, Robin Hessman's feature documentary debut tells the stories of five Moscow schoolmates who were brought up behind the Iron Curtain, witnessed the joy and confusion of glasnost, and reached adulthood right as the world changed around them.

I admit to a certain amount of ignorance when it comes to Russia and its people. This documentary was very interesting and informative. You see a lot of news bites about Russia, mostly having to do with Putin and global politics, but you rarely get to hear about or from regular Russians trying to get along in the modern world. Also a great contrast between what it was like to grow up under communism and what its like to live in today's Russia. Very good.

A truly beautiful film. It resonates very well with my own experiences of that time. I agree with another reviewer who suggested watching bonus materials on the disk. Both the deleted scenes and the interview with the director are great. There are actually two interviews but the second one is in Russian.

A most interesting film. We in the west hear about the lean to a return to dictatorship in Russia and wonder how the people could allow themselves to be swept back into that kind of control. Its interesting to hear about the lives of some people who have come up through the changes that have happened and realize that there are some who are aware of the corruption and do see the difficulty of their situation. Good information on evolviing Russian people..., and their response to the changing of the ideologies and history! The Quaility of the Film is a bit dated, but don't let it put u off.. Do watch the Deleted Scenes, well-worth the information and understanding of the mentality of the Russian people..

I really enjoyed this look at people who were kids growing up in Communist Russia who lived through perestroika. This film does a great job at capturing vivid personalities.
