Frank Stronach came to Canada from Austria with a few dollars in his pocket, a lot of hustle and a hunger to succeed. He would build a small shop into Magna International Inc., one of the world's biggest auto parts manufacturers, with 115,000 employees in 26 countries. "The Magna Man" is not only an inspirational story of business triumph and innovation, it's an invaluable guide for anyone eager to start their own business, acquire the skills of a highly effective leader, or make a difference in the world around them.

The weakness of autobiography is an absense of balance. As the unapologic highest paid Cdn business executive, Mr. Stronach has for years lectured Canadians on what his idea of a better society should be and how his success should be a model for everyone else.

Stonach does pays passing lip service to be being 'lucky' enough to be in the right place at the right time in history to benefit from his skills, and there is absolutely no doubt the man worked brutally hard, long hours, weeks and years to achieve his success.

But much of his commentary comes across as self serving and arrogrant. Which perhaps explains in part why he's yet to be elected to public office, despite spending signficant dollars and effort trying to.
