The Three Mesquiteers was the umbrella title for a series of 51 B-westerns released between 1936 and 1943. Overland Stage Raiders, the second of eight John Wayne Mesquiteers films, co-stars silent film icon Louise Brooks in her final performance and Anthony Marsh as siblings who partner up with the three amigos, Stony Brooke, Tucson Smith, and Lullaby Joslin, to save their struggling airline. Standing in their way is an evil businessman and his band of outlaws.

Cattle rustlers raiding buses. Gangsters robbing airplanes. Unnecessary Cowboy Ventriloquists. All in one movie. Poor acting. Poor writing. Good B western.

LIke the previous reviewer, I wanted to see Louise Brooks in speaking role. Maybe the film would've appealed to me when I was a child in the 1950's, watching it in a Saturday matinee, but now I found it boring. John Wayne does seem to have a fraction of a personality in this movie, unlike in his later films, but it's not worth watching for either Brooks' or Wayne's role.

I watched this movie because it's Louise Brooks' last film, it's also one of John Wayne's early efforts before he hit legendary status. For anyone who knows Louise Brooks, you'll find rather quickly that she's almost unrecognizable. The beautiful, dangerous sexy vixen from the silent era, most notable 'Pandora's Box' is absent. Here, she plays a sexless sister in a role that I believe she received 5th billing. She was going through a bad time in her life and unfortunately, things got way worse before they got better. A sad end to a promising career at the time. Still, the movie is a harmless piece intended for children attending Saturday matinees.
