Hester has a mermaid for a great great grandmother and she passed down a curse. Hester is sort of self-absorbed and annoying. Not my favorite listen.
Entirely addicting. I love a good puzzle and despite being able to predict main plot points well in advance this book kept me enthralled to the end, watching the characters piece together their own stories.
Monstrous Beauty is a very fast paced book. Fama left no lull in the story for me to put this book down, I finished it the day I started.
The story is engaging and as the mystery starts unraveling I found it hard to put down this book. The writing is very simple, which is typical of young adult fiction. However, please note that there is one detailed scene depicting a rape. There is also a scene depicting several murders. If you are a parent, please read it yourself first so you can decide whether your teen is mature enough for it.
This book was an compelling blend of history, mystery, and magic, and it takes an adult spin on my childhood fascination with mermaids. The storyline jumps back and forth in time, gradually revealing the origin of a longstanding family curse. The reader does a fantastic job voicing the various characters. There's also a nice, brief interview with the author at the end of this audiobook.
this book was so amazingly wtiyyen that I did not want to put it down. The plot line in general is unique and great!!! Also, it kept me guessing from the book. I completely recommend this book for anyone who loves fantasy and mystery!!!!
A curse on Hester's family causes every woman to die young right after giving birth to a daughter. Is there anything that Hester can do to break this cycle?
