This two disc, seven episode series follows the Sea Shepherd Society's captain, Paul Watson, and crew along their journey into the waters off of Australia, trying to prevent the Japanese from illegal whaling.
This shows how difficult it is for the Sea Shepherd, using their ship, Steve Irwin in getting in the way and preventing the Japanese from whaling, in which they believe to be whaling for "research" purposes.
The mechanical and medical problems that the Sea Shepherd runs into, are frequent, debilitating and hinder their objective, however they are able to throw "stink bombs" onto the deck of the whaling vessels and stop the whaling, while the Sea Shepherd is around. They film their action and in one instance, Paul Watson is "shot" or got some shrapnel from "fire work bombs," thrown by the Japanese.
Well worth the watch to see what happens on the open ocean, and to be aware of the Sea Shepherds objectives in action.

Not a hudge fan of reality TV, but I did enjoy Whale Wars. Its inspirational to know that somethigs in life are worth dying for. Some of the risks are over the top, but the overcomming commitment and general support from society seem to prepetuate this documented endeavor into a place of honor.

helping endangered species is a good thing, don't get me wrong. the ppl in this documentary are strong willed and care about why they are on the open ocean, However, it seemed to me, that the volunteers need more help!!, the 5ships compared to the 2-3 smaller ships they have throughout the documentary just don't do enough to actually make any real impact on the Japanese whalers. They have more money, more resources and bigger ships and more crew, I say, blow them out of the water then they can get the job done. Throwing stink bombs on deck doesn't do anything. I watched this dvd set for hours and didn't see any whale being saved, most of the time, they just searched for the ship they shouldn't have even been tailing. Take out the Harpoon ships then you're saving whales lives. Tha's my opinion.

A++ for the Sea Shepherd!!!!!

Add a Summary

I am a Sea Shepherd crew member and I think that the willing to die to save whales is the best thing anyone can do. We are NOT a terrorist group. The real Eco-Terrorists are the ones killing our oceans (the whalers in the Faroe Islands, the Dolphin Killers In Taiji Japan, and the Southern Ocean). And one thing you MUST know is that we (humans) are fishing out the ocean at such an alarming rate that all the worlds fisheries are in the state of collapse. And by the year of 2025 there will be no more fisheries because we would have fished out all the marine life. Humans adapt to diminishment that we cause one species of fish to go extinct and then we move on to another one to destroy and so on and so on.

We (humans) are just a conceited naked ape, a divine legend in our own minds that we see ourselves as some sort of god, seeing what will die and what will live, see what will survive and what will be destroyed, see what will thrive and what will go extinct, but honestly we're just a bunch of primates out of control.
