John A. Macdonald is probably one of Canada's most respected and well-remembered Prime Ministers of all.

This particular biography, written by Ged Martin, gives the reader a fairly brief account of John A's life and political career, pointing out that Macdonald was, indeed, a very flawed person.

Not only was John A. Macdonald Canada's very first Prime Minister - But, to this very day - He still ranks right up there as being one of the highest rated political leaders in all of Canadian history.

A dominant figure in Canadian Confederation - Macdonald's parliamentary career spanned for 50 years.

Written by Irish history professor, Ged Martin - This particular biography is a "warts-and-all" retelling of Macdonald's life and career.

*Note* - In 1891 - John A. Macdonald (76 at the time) died following a stroke.

While the book makes attempts to portray MacDonald as a flawed human being, it also strains to demonstrate his role as the great unifier of a segregated Canada.
