The reader's voice is deep and resonant and makes the emphases right, especially when the characters are speaking. Unfortunately, one can hear bump into the lectern, shuffle papers, swallow and take in breaths; its just poor sound engineering (newer recordings don't have any of these problems). The translation is a rendered into English prose, but some of the mnenonic devices ("spoke these winged words...", "wine dark sea", and "...escaped the barrier of your teeth?" and several others) give it the sense that one is listening to something that was once recited. I am surprised that the political correctness police have not undertaken their soviet-esque trooping on this work (Odysseus kills many people, including some of his female slaves, just for insolence he received).

According to the container, this is George Herbert Palmer's 1884 translation.
