"One of Scandinavia's best crime writers"-- The London Times

While vacationing on the Swedish island Gotland, a young father of two is shot on the beach while jogging. Assistant commissioner Karin Jacobsson, who must lead the investigation while Anders Knutas is on vacation, is at a loss until another horrific crime is committed. Mari Jungstedt successfully combines a thrilling, raw crime novel with a multilayered relational drama.

Peter Bovide was trying to put his past behind him when he went out for his morning run- he didn't expect someone to shoot him.

This is the US edition of book #5 in the Inspector Anders Knutas series set on the small and fascinating Swedish island province of Gøtland; the UK edition is called “Summertime”; the story is not as well constructed as one would like it to be, the story sometimes lurches around and human-interest aspects are sometimes bypassed; and most of the ongoing characters do unsettling things; plus there’s bit too much sexual melodrama; but at least the TV guy is not so much of a problem in this episode, though he never says that he has learned anything from previous events; lastly, the denouement is an unsatisfactory one from several points of view; this series is beginning to have unpleasing characteristics of airport fiction
