Alwych, Connecticut, is the stereotypical old money Connecticut beach town. And Chapin Waring is the worst thing that ever happened to it. She was a well turned-out debutante from a rich family until thirty years ago when she was revealed to be a bank robber and murderer. She was never to be heard from again. Until now. After a day of being spotted around town, Chapin turns up dead, and Gregor Demarkian is brought in to solve the mystery.

The author is sympathetic with everybody, the mystery is really just the gradual revealing of the real story. I always love Gregor's little world on Cavanaugh St. The writing is excellent.
