Based on the bestselling Inspector Banks novels by Peter Robinson, DCI Banks follows the tenacious Detective Chief Inspector Alan Banks and his headstrong partner Annie Cabbott as they attempt to solve three gruesome crimes. We love this series!!! So glad we found it! Can't wait to watch Season 2.
Excelllent acting, spellbinding story lines!

Very good adaptation of the books. Great acting.

Grisly scenes of mutilated bodies interspersed with unconvincing scenery-chewing. Unbelievable situations: experienced cop goes alone to meet psychopath with predictable ersatz suspense as a result. Whew! Saved just in time! Slightly reminiscent of "CSI" but without the hook of forensic science. Not worth wasting time on.

Poor casting.

Thought I watched, commented and rated this DVD months ago. As I recall, the DCI was portrayed to be an inept detective who glowered to everyone including relatives of murdered victims. Dialogues and acting were forgettable. Also, agree with other comments (they too had disappeared from the system) on logistic issues such as when a petite female DS handcuffed a powerful serial killer or awful lapses in police work ... Think I shall stick with the books.

I'm glad some viewers enjoyed
this grisly, poorly edited DVD.
On disc 1 the first episode was
about a canal boat arson, so we
are treated to several closeups
of the charred corpses; one
apparently was not enough to
get across that this was AWFUL!!
The second disc was a step further up the grisly ladder. The
victims had their throats cut; the
closeups here were again very
graphic and plentiful. Perhaps
the director felt that he had to
out do the gore of the first epi-
sode. If so he succeeded...in
spades. I have no Idea what
disc 2 contained in the number
of/or types of savagery that were
inflicted on victims in episodes 3 and 4. Chain saws and broadaxes????

I was speculating whether I would like this series after reading all Peter Robinson's books. But I really enjoyed Season One. Would recommend this DVD.

While I didn't like the pilot that much, I really liked the first season of this series. The actors are spectacular in this series! The stories are very tense, fast-paced, nerve-wracking, and interesting. All of these stories, though, are deeply tragic. Wonderfully acted by the leads, Stephen Tompkinson and Andrea Lowe. I also love Lorraine Burroughs. All of the guest stars are great too. One of the better contemporary mystery series. Highly recommended.
