On the verge of a domestic breakdown, Vero and her husband Shane get a foreign nanny to help with their sons, a woman from the Philippines named Ligaya. With this set-up, Angie Abdou tackles the issue of international nannies with humor and insight; draws an intriguing portrait of two women from two very different cultures; and, takes satirical look at contemporary love, marriage, and parenthood by laying bare the sense of entitlement and superiority at the heart of upper-middle-class North American existence.

Navel-gazing family stuff. Just not really interesting to me, and the chapter about the drunken family in Mexico was so depressing (I've seen way too many of those types of travelers) that I just figured life's too short to read this kind of book.

Liked this novel about a contemporary Canadian family with all it's modern trappings and complexities.Wicked Christmas scene with the in-laws...a la Franzen. Good writing .
