I love anything written by Ethel Wilson and I wish someone on Canada Reads would pick up one of her novels and introduce her to this generation. Young, socially isolated Frankie us enthralled by the enigmatic Hetty. Frankie's inner strength finallly helps her to see through Hetty's manipulations and put a stop to damage to her own family. Although the plot depends on manners and mores of a previous age, the story holds together very well.
