America in 1881. On the afternoon of October 26, Doc Holliday and the three Earp brothers faced off against the Clantons and the McLaurys in Tombstone, Arizona. It should have been a simple misdemeanor arrest. But thirty seconds and thirty bullets later, three officers were wounded and three citizens lay dead in the dirt. Wyatt Earp was the last man standing-the only one unscathed. The lies began before the smoke cleared, but the gunfight at the O.K. Corral would soon become central to American beliefs about frontier justice in the Old West.

Mary Doria Russell is my favorite author. Her characters are amazing, her stories are compelling and her writing is unparalleled.

Fictionalized (but well researched) story of Wyatt Earp and Josephine Sarah Marcus in Tombstone, with Doc Holliday. Russell filled out the characters making them robust and complex. I especially appreciated her treatment of Josephine.

A good piece of well researched historical fiction about a crazy time in American history where sections of the Western United States were almost completely lawless. I enjoyed getting to know some of these famous historical characters. My only complaint is that it was a bit slow in places. Bogged down with detail that would occasionally get tedious. This is not a book to rush through. Take your time and soak it all up.

A realistic, if lengthy, account of the famous gunfight, the reasons for it, and its aftermath. Full of interesting characters, although I sometimes struggled to remember the details about all of them.
