Danielle (Juno Temple of THE THREE MUSKETEERS) is an audacious and promiscuous Oklahoma high school student in the late 1980s. Her teachers don't approve of her attitude, and her mother (Milla Jovovich of RESIDENT EVIL) is about to marry a Mormon who Danielle detests. Amidst the turmoil of her troubles, she is paired with shy, gay classmate Clarke (Jeremy Dozier of TV's ICARLY) for a family planning project. Their unexpected friendship prompts them to run away to Fresno in search of Danielle's birth father, with their bag of flour "baby Joan" in tow. The road trip leads Danielle and Clarke on a funny, heartfelt journey full of glorious 80's tunes.

This movie suffers from a severe identity crisis. Does it want to be a brash satire like “Clueless”, a comedy about empowerment like “Legally Blonde”, or a contemporary farce-with-a-heart like “The Opposite of Sex”? It is not as skillful as any of these, and what’s more, its uneven nature extends to the film-making process as well, mixing in elements of irony, “magical realism”, and finally ending in conventional “uplift”. It’s a waste of a very talented cast (including a truly surprising turn by Milla Jovovich). Frankly, it’s just a mess.

I found this to be better than the DVD jacket implied ! A sensitive quirky coming-of-age road-trip buddy flic. (...and I cried at the end !!)

One of the most Disappointing -Unwatchable films I’ve ever seen this year. Really a dumb movie. "I fast forwarded all the way." It would be a waste of money to buy.

Just couldn't get into this one. There was a relatively fresh feeling road trip story. Quirky-ish characters. A lolita-type competant lead. The flamboyant fat kid and the dialogue in this movie just flopped for me. The acting was pretty good from everyone, but I think they underused Macy. He could have brought alot to my liking of this film with a bigger, better role. More or less, the ultra gay fat kid and the shifting facial expressions of a bag of flour didn't make for an entertaining flick for me.

This movie really stats off slow but it gets better once the road trip begins.

Dee. You. Dee. DUD. Absolutely awful. Poorly written 'paycheck' movie for Macy, Steenburgen, etc. Juno Temple does have talent; unfortunately this abomination was not a suitable platform to display it properly. ½ star for her, some '80s nostalgia, and 'Joan' (the expressive sack of flour).

I didn't manage to watch all of it. I'm rating it and commenting on it as a reminder to myself not to pick this up again.
