A thrillingly reimagined fairy tale from the truly magical combination of author Neil Gaiman and illustrator Chris Riddell - weaving together a sort-of Snow White and an almost Sleeping Beauty with a thread of dark magic, which will hold readers spellbound from start to finish. On the eve of her wedding, a young queen sets out to rescue a princess from an enchantment. She casts aside her fine wedding clothes, takes her chain mail and her sword and follows her brave dwarf retainers into the tunnels under the mountain towards the sleeping kingdom. This queen will decide her own future - and the princess who needs rescuing is not quite what she seems. Twisting together the familiar and the new, this perfectly delicious, captivating and darkly funny tale shows its creators at the peak of their talents. Lavishly produced, packed with glorious Chris Riddell illustrations enhanced with metallic ink, this is a spectacular and magical gift.

Before Queen Snow White marries her prince and settles into a properly dull life, she sets off with her dwarf buddies to find Sleeping Beauty and break the sleeping sickness that is attacking the villagers throughout the kingdom. This dark Snow White and #woke Sleeping Beauty mashup is a fun, fast read.

5 Stars - I highly recommend if you enjoy fairy tale retellings, fantasy, or are looking for a change of pace.

When the dwarves learn that a sleeping spell is spreading across the kingdoms, and a rumor of a sleeping princess and a witch reach their ears they take the queen to investigate.

I loved this graphic novel. For one thing the art is gorgeous! Every picture is so detailed and stunning in black, white, and gold. The story instantly reminded me of a D&D adventure. Dwarves walk into a tavern, hear about a problem, and set off on a quest to save the kingdom. I liked that it was part quest, part fairy tale retelling, and as always Gaiman's writing is fantastic. Everything is so vividly imagined and described, which really brought the story to life. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking to spice up their reading.

I had pretty high expectations for this book because I absolutely love Neil Gaiman and Chris Riddell; thankfully they delivered. I was very charmed by the writing and I spent extra time on each page taking in every detail of the illustrations. I really enjoyed the twist because I did not see it coming. I only wish the ending was a little less vague but otherwise it was a fantastic book in every way.

I cannot praise Neil Gaiman enough his work always amazes me. But this is also not the typical fairy tale. Forget damsels being saved by men and prepare for something different. The imagery was also beyond gorgeous. I highly recommend this one.

A very interesting reimagining of two classic tales: Sleeping Beauty and Snow White. It ties together the obvious similarities of the two tales seamlessly and is well done, though the climax is rather short and uneventful. Overall, it was an engaging and intriguing short story that I really enjoyed. The illustrations by Chris Riddell are very well done and integrated with the text very well.

Neil Gaiman has re-imagined the story of Sleeping Beauty and in true Gaiman style, he has done it beautifully.

The queen felt something stirring in her heart. She remembered her stepmother, then. Her stepmother had liked to be adored. Learning how to be strong, to feel her own emotions and not another’s, had been hard; but once you learned the trick of it, you did not forget.
