I really enjoyed this novel. It was very interesting to read a novel that takes place in the same city I live in (albeit decades before I was born). The author shatters the typical "war hero" stereotype and shows us a side to war (and specifically World War II) that is simply not written about. I was delighted when I had a chance to meet Laurel at a book club a couple of months ago and she was fascinating to listen to how she researched and wrote this novel. Can't wait to read her next one!
