Helen MacInnes is regarded as one of the giants among writers of the modern thriller. This book shows why. Originally published in 1942, a mere 2 years after the fall of France, this novel provides it all... suspense, plot twists and eminently believable characters. This is one of many classic books by MacInnes, two of which (this one and The Salzburg Connection) were also made into feature films. Thank goodness, the publisher has decided to reissue her titles, two in 2013, which our library has acquired and several more to come in 2014 which hopefully will also become part of the library collection.
