The persons and events in this film are fictitious, fortunately! An exfighter pilot is forced to take over the controls of an airliner when the flight crew succumbs to food poisoning. Their hilarious high-jinks spoof airplane disaster flicks, religious zealots, television commercials, romantic love--the list whirls by in rapid succession. And the story races from one moment of zany fun to the next.

Airplane! is a splendidly tacky, totally tasteless, completely insignificant flight, a gooney bird of a movie that looks as if it could never get off the ground and then surprises and delights with its free-spirited aerobatics.

Funny. I laughed at the "Calm down!" part, and a whole lot of others.

One of my all time faves. So many gags, so many memorable lines. Great

Sooo fun, so silly. Good for a night when you're feeling blue. Small quibble: breasts don't pout. One scene that doesn't date well: when passengers line up to commit various forms of assault on a hysterical woman.

You cannot view Airplane! without the context of the seventies indulgence in repeated versions of "airport" disasters. This film is to the genre of disaster films what Spinal Tap is to rockumentary (i.e. the ultimate mockumentary). Airplane! is slapstick sight gags & one liners delivered by actors who generally played much more dramatic roles. It's not sophisticated, but it delivers.

The Politically Corrrect brigade would stop this movie from being made today. So take a moment and enjoy. It is hugely funny & well worth watching!

Ted Striker: I flew single engine fighters in the Air Force, but this plane has four engines. It's an entirely different kind of flying, altogether.

Rumack, Randy: [together] It's an entirely different kind of flying.

Leslie Nielsen: Don't call me surely.

Reporter: What kind of plane is it?
Johnny: Oh, it's a big pretty white plane with red stripes, curtains in the windows and wheels and it looks like a big Tylenol.

Rumack: You'd better tell the Captain we've got to land as soon as we can. This woman has to be gotten to a hospital.
Elaine Dickinson: A hospital? What is it?
Rumack: It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.

An airplane crew takes ill. Surely the only person capable of landing the plane is an ex-pilot afraid to fly. But don't call him Shirley.
