Apparently this is based on a true story, so probably I would have enjoyed it more if I had been familiar with the story on which it was based.

An emotionally hollow DS Harry went back to his job after his wife's unexpected death while his mom helped to look after his still bereaved teen daughter. It was a twin stories on the tough home life of dedicated cops and the Meth world in Auckland. Bonus is that a Somoan actor Oscar Kightley played Harry and Sam Neill, an Irish with a New Zealand father, played his caring boss. More details in Summary.

I really wanted to root for this detective given his tragic backstory. But after four episodes (of six) I found his self-pity distracting. His daughter suffers alone while he tries to bury his grief in booze. But what really turned me off was HORRIBLE, incompetent police work. Internal affairs should remove him from the force. The hole is too deep for the writers to elevate him in the final two episodes to the point I'd care. The only saving grace point is the young lady who portrays his daughter. My heart went out to her.

Harry Angelsea is under pressure from Internal Affairs, his boss, and his family concerns in this engrossing drama which takes place in Auckland, New Zealand. You root for him, but wonder if his self-destructive behavior will overwhelm all other concerns.
