I just returned the kit and I have to agree there are a lot of materials in the case that are well worth going through. The borrowing time is just right with 3 weeks - of course if you finish early, return it!

It's a great kit that has both gadgets and resources. The resources have tons of ideas for home efficiency projects.

Also, even though I started at 300 plus on the waiting list I probably waited about half a year. You can always pause your hold if it comes up when you're going to be busy or away.

I was once at the end of the long waiting line (300+ people). After months of waiting, my turn is now coming (56 more people before me). Please don't just change your borrowing time, say from 3 weeks to 1 week as some have suggested, to be fair to everyone. I waited for my turn.

I asked, and EPL said that they have gone back to City Council for more money for the kits. They don't want to shorten the loan period because there is a lot of stuff to do in the kit and they think three weeks is reasonable.

430 people on waiting list for 13 copies. Quick math tells me it takes about 430/13*3 = 99 weeks to get it! That's almost TWO YEARS! Something is not right. (Assuming borrowers keep it for about two weeks on average and the item gets transferred to the pickup location in 3 days and the next borrower come pick up in another 3 days. That's 3 weeks in total for each circulation.)
Please tell me I'm wrong.

I would suggest both increase the no of kits and shorten the lending period to better serve.

I was at the library today and it so happened the kit was sitting there waiting to be picked up. I asked to take a look at it and also asked the librarian why they book this very expensive kit just like a common book or CD. She said same borrowing rules apply (I think they really need to make an exception for this). Even if you are late returning, break it, lose it, have zero idea how to use it, this completely ruins it for 358 other people who like to make use of it. oh well, it's a pilot program.

The borrowing period seems far too long for this obviously popular kit. Almost 300 on a reserve list as I type this. Suggest a week borrowing time instead to get as many Edmontonians using this as possible to help reduce our carbon footprint. Perhaps offer the books as a second part of the kit?

For how many people requesting this compared to how many copies you have, why don't you shorten the hold period to a week?
